How to Increase Employee Engagement With Leadership Vulnerability

How to Increase Employee Engagement With Leadership Vulnerability

Posted on September 15, 2022 by kozmun

Disconnecting is risk for disengaging

The more disconnected your employees feel, the greater risk they run of becoming disengaged. It’s not uncommon for people to keep their struggles to themselves, even at work, for fear of being judged, viewed as incompetent, and for other personal reasons. This can become quite isolating, so it’s important to set a precedent in your workplace that mental health is a top priority.

Set an example

Being a good leader is all about setting an example. If you show your employees that it’s okay not to feel 100% great all the time, there’s a good chance it’ll take off some pressure and help them feel more engaged in their work. Instead of being distracted by what they can’t control, they’ll feel more empowered to take control of what is within their grasp.

Be vulnerable and professional

If you can learn to be vulnerable while keeping it professional, you stand to develop more meaningful relationships at work and give your employees more space to feel comfortable.

Registration is now open for our next Great Engagement: Engage and Mobilize Employees Training Program, starting October 12, 2022.

The benefits of a walking meeting can be like jogging your mind!

You might be used to meetings in conference rooms or over zoom, but the days of being restricted to four walls are over. Luckily, walking meetings can benefit everyone involved, even if you need to sit this one out in your office!

Benefits for Everyone

Aside from just being good for your body, here are some notable benefits of a walking meeting:

–        Increase engagement and creative thinking

–        Boost energy and motivation

–        Encourage an organic, natural exchange of thoughts

–        Improve collaboration and connection

Start Now

The great thing about walking meetings is that you can start implementing them as soon as you want! Even if your team works over zoom, you can encourage workers to take a walk and participate in the meeting via zoom or Microsoft teams call.

Questions for leaders

1.     Do you currently conduct traditional meetings in a conference room or over zoom?

2.     Would walking meetings be beneficial in your business? Why or why not?

Is Taking a Vacation Stressful for Your Employees?

Is Taking a Vacation Stressful for Your Employees?

Posted on August 12, 2022 by kozmun

Taking a vacation can be stressful for employees. As a manager, you can reduce that stress and make it easier for your employees to return rested.

Part of managing a team involves keeping track of everyone’s well-being. You can’t expect exceptional results in your business if your team is feeling overworked or unable to recharge.

Taking a Vacation is Important

Taking time for yourself is important. Equally important is ensuring your team knows you support their right to take time off. Sometimes, employees get nervous about taking a vacation because they don’t want to appear lazy or disengaged. This can often lead to distractions and in turn, lower productivity.

Tips to Try

Increase employee engagement and give a great impression:

·       Check in with your employees on a monthly or quarterly basis.

·       Make it clear that vacation time doesn’t need to be explained.

·       Offer to come up with a plan for coverage while they’re away.

Questions for leaders

1.     Do you think your current vacation policies need to be adjusted?

2.     How do you ensure your staff is taking the time they are entitled to?

National Employee Appreciation Day is today

National Employee Appreciation Day is Today!

Posted on March 4, 2022 by kozmun

We are happy to recognize that today, March 4th, is National Employee Appreciation Day.

We hope that you have been able to take action on some of the employee engagement ideas we have offered this past week.

Employee Engagement Impacts

Employee engagement impacts employee morale, productivity, innovation and problem solving and customer service. Any one of these can impact the business bottom line.

In fact, the lack of employee engagement is a billion dollar problem.

The Management Journal’s semi-annual Employee Engagement Index reports that 60% of employees are not engaged, and 15% are actively disengaged at work and only 25% are actively engaged.

The impact of employee engagement or rather disengagement is hitting businesses’ bottom line hard.

Cost of Unhappy Workers

According to Canada Human Resources Centre, unhappy workers cost the North American business economy over $350 billion per year in lost productivity.

A study conducted by  Queen’s School of Business and Gallup, found that disengaged workers logged 37% higher absenteeism, 18% lower productivity, 5% lower profitability, 49% more accidents and 60% more errors and defects than engaged employees.

So how much is this disengagement costing you and your organization? According to Forbes, the costs of a disengaged employee is equivalent to 34% of their annual salary, or $3,400 for every $10,000 of income.

If we applied this to the average Canadian salary of $55,800 a year, the costs of a single disengaged employee to the business is going to be $18,972 annually.

Employee and Mobilize Engagement Program

While there is no quick fix, there are simple leadership practices that can produce immediate improvements in engagement.

We are offering a program that focuses on simple but powerful behaviours that will have maximum impact on your leaders’ ability to engage.
